Born in the Ohio River town of Owensboro, Kentucky in 1977, Jed Conklin began pursuing photography while studying at Western Kentucky University where he received a bachelor degree in both photojournalism and print journalism. His first photography job landed him in Pinedale, Wyoming where he was an intern at the Pinedale Roundup. Later Conklin would intern at the Concord Monitor, the Jackson Hole News and Guide and would be hired fulltime at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington.
In 2007 Conklin started Jed Conklin Photography. Last year was quite the adventure for Conklin. He was on assignment or working on personal projects in Mexico, Morocco, Paris, China and Iraq. Conklin also photographed the Winter Olympics in Vancouver this year.
Conklin has been recognized in several photojournalism competitions, including Pictures of the Year International and The Best of Photojournalism where he won third place photographer of the year in 2006.
Manny's Pale Ale or Perpeteum if I am training (beer really does not do well in a bike bottle).
Favorite view or destination?
I absolutely love the Wind River Range in Wyoming but if I need a city fix I head straight to Paris.
What makes you a creative?
When I see something in reality or in my mind I begin to conjure ideas on how I can transform a vision into a photograph. My ability to amalgamate ideas into a tangible is what makes me a creative.
Sometimes I like various songs for a short time but I always go back to "American Pie" by Don McLean. Not only is it an American classic but the song has deep meaning, the likes of which I have never been able to fully decipher. Plus you never hear anybody do it very well at a Karaoke bar. Never.
What's in your bag?
My camera bag? A bunch of cool Nikon gear. My grocery bag? Pizza and some other unimportant things. My duffel bag? Jeans, t-shirts, medical kit, board shorts, boots, flip flops and a toothbrush. Always ready in a moments notice.
What is your equipment?
That seems a touch personal but if you are referring to my camera equipment please refer to "What's in your bag?"
What do you love about Joby products?
versatile, light weight, ingenious.
What is your morning ritual?
Right now it is run, bike, swim, coffee, smoothie, check email. Not necessarily in that order.
What is the 1 thing you would change in the world?
Lose the hate
