Although you wouldn’t guess it by looking out the window here in San Francisco, this has been a crazy week for all things weather. In honor of the crazy storms that have crushed much of the US, below is a time-lapse shot using Gorillacam.

On a related note, we were thrilled to find the GorillaTorch Blade in the company of Tactical Bacon and the Bed Bunker in MSNBC‘s list of essential products to survive doomsday.  Yeah, I am not joking…

Friday has arrived and a restless spirit has descended on the Joby office. It has been quite a week in San Francisco. In case you didn’t know, the Giants won the World Series, there was an election and somehow we managed to have summer in November for a few precious days.

To start off Friday Finds, I wanted to share this humorous take on the Big Apple (where I was last week). There is nothing quite like a fuzzy monster walking through Time Square. I love the fur on this guy.

Up in the Air

We were honored to appear in the “What is in the Staff Photographer’s bag”  by Fred Lum from the Globe and Mail. Here’s what he had to say about the trusty Gorillapod:

Lastly, there’s one piece of gear I don’t use very often but find it indispensable when I do need it and that’s a Joby Gorillapod. It’s got articulated legs which have rubberized rings and feet which have tremendous stiction and can wrap around whatever you can find.

November is here and with that starts the Holiday buying season and the gift guides. Blast Magazine honored Gorillatorch Blade (even though the Gorillatorch Flare is shown) as a selection in their 2010 Holiday Automative Gift Guide for “anyone who drives or loves their automobile.”

“Gorillatorch Switchback sheds light on campers,” states USA Today in this review of the latest product in the Joby arsenal. Happy to help her cross her nephew off the gift list for the Holidays.

Thank you so much for all of you who attended our Tent City event last night! It was a blast (photos will follow shortly) and we were thrilled to introduce the world to the Gorillatorch Switchback accompanied by tasty treats, drinks and the wilderness.

Some of the best press hits for thus far include Gadling who remarked on Joby “being on a roll” (something we are always happy to hear). Wired, on the other hand,  pumped up the Halloween theme with a variation on “things that go bump” in the night. Engadget chose to go mythical with reference to Jason and the Argonauts.

Not to be forgotten, the Gorillatorch Blade got really detailed and fabulous coverage in CNET.

Between the legs’ ability to wrap around smaller objects and the feet’s ability to hold onto larger ones, we didn’t find too many situations and angles that could shake the Gorillatorch Blade. And with two brightnesses to chose from and a generous battery life, the Blade supplied us with more than enough light and use time to install a pair of car stereos in our dark corner of the CNET garage.

Gorillapod Video, also had its chance to be road tested by the Mac:Life Show, where they gave it ride on their scooter and saw just how strong our magnets are.

It has been fantastic weather here in San Francisco with lovely summer-like evenings. Of course, elsewhere in the world, they seem to have made the transition to cooler climes. I love the miniature look of the video below taken by Fredrik Nordheim as he rediscovered his winter feet (ie skis again).

The Gorillapod Focus and Ballhead X got even more attention this week with this full review on Crunch Gear.

The press keeps coming for the Gorillatorch Blade, below are a few excerpts from some of the great hits we received.

On Gadget Review:

The Blade on the other hand is solid all around. It’s body can best be described as a chunk of solid metal (aircraft-grade aluminum) – that’s a good thing. And of course there is Joby’s patented bendy legs with magnetic feet, which means it works just about any where you need to stick it. It’s rated IPX-5 water resistant and uses a an ultra-bright CREE XLamp XP-C LED bulb.

The battery, which lasts about 2.5 hours on full power (130 lumens), is completely rechargeable. A mini-USB port is hidden behind the rubber switch, which flips opens to reveal the port and they’ve include a wall wart with a USB plug, so if need be you could charge this thing via your computer’s USB port. Charging is indicated by a blue LED inside the lens that remains lit until charging is complete.

I4U gave a 9 out of 10 rating for the Gorillatorch Blade.  They particular were excited about the ability to use the light both hands-free and tactically.

The Blade flashlight slips off easily but it is held very snugly when on the rail so you can poison it in any direction without fearing that it will slip off the tripod. Another key difference in the Gorillatorch Blade and the other Gorillatorch flashlights is that the Blade has an internal rechargeable battery. A rechargeable battery can be both good and bad.

It is still Friday…really… and somewhere in the Pacific it is the middle of the day, so it must be time for Friday Finds.

We have some absolutely fantastic stop motion videos this week.  Executed,  of course, with a Gorillapod. The first one has a lovely twist about halfway through and is beautifully rendered with a touch of whimsy.

Gorillatorch Blade Takes Aim

It’s been quite a debut for Gorillatorch Blade, with Wired’s claims that it is “tough enough to kill Vampires,” Mashable‘s correct assertion that “it cuts through the darkness,” and Engadget‘s claim that it  is slim.

But before that, we had this great write-up in the Wall Street Journal’s The Fixer column for the Gorillapod. Making it even more appealing, it came with a clever title, “Me, Myself (My Thumb, My Arm) and My Camera.”
