Happy Friday Creactives!

To start off, our good friends Down Under sent us this fun image shot using both a GorillaPod and a GorillaTorch. A GorillaPod supported the camera and a GorillaTorch Flare was used write the text. I say that is doubly awesome!

Here is a little bit from the photographer Paul Gibbs: “It was taken on Nikon D700 full frame camera sitting on a Gorillapod, camera set to low ISO to extend time needed to write logo. It was a 30 second exposure at f8 on a tamron 28-75 f2.8 lens. The writer made sure he did not stand too long in one place to remain invisible (nearly), wrote each letter backwards then covered Flare with hand and then did the next letter. It took just two attempts once we worked out exposure! It was totally dark exempt for moon light, hence the detail in landscape.”

The versatility of the GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 has charmed a reviewer on Lunch.com. Thomas Duff gave the Yogi a 5+ rating and said, “this stand is WAY cool. As far as I’m concerned, this is now part of my iPad. It won’t be coming off anytime soon”. Now that is exactly what we were aiming for.

For those of our readers who live in London or who have the luck to travel there this July, check out the London Street Photography Festival. The festival features a panorama of street photography: old and new, analog and digital, professional work and student work. If you (like I) can’t make it to London, there is plenty to see just poking around on their website. I particularly enjoyed these images.

Somewhat in the vein of taking photos on the fly, Photojojo has announced a new mount for iPhone 4 that allows you to use any of your Canon or Nikon DSLR lenses with your iPhone.

While my iPhone has quickly become my favorite (and most readily available) camera, I’m not sold on the practicality of the device. What do you think, Creactives? Would you splurge on a mount for your iPhone and lug around all your lenses or just stick with your DSLR?

Enjoy your weekend!

For months, you have begged, pleaded and written hilariously-rich statements about your needs for iPad 2 versions of the GorillaMobile Ori and Yogi. Today, your deep yearnings for the hands-free positioning and camera optimizing benefits of the case + stands: GorillaMobile Ori and GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 can be fulfilled. Each case targets a different type of iPad user- the Ori is for the power iPad user, while the Yogi is suited for those who use their iPad in a more relaxed and cozy manner. Of course, the toughest part may be deciding what type of user you are!

GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 2

Built for the demanding iPad power user, the GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 2 provides sleek ergonomic positioning all in a protective case and stand. Drawing its inspiration from the folding art of origami, the GorillaMobile Ori is engineered from a superlight German-made aluminum/polypropylene composite used in high-performance cars. This next-generation material allows Ori to be folded into countless positions designed with the needs of the mobile professional in mind. And when folded back into its folio mode, the Ori delivers lightweight, rigid stability that can easily slip it into your bag for travel to the next meeting. The iPad 2 version of the Ori follows on the amazing success and accolades of the Ori for iPad 1 which won best of show by Beatweek Magazine at CES and was awarded finalist at the IDEA awards by ISDA.

Watch the Ori in action:

GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2

For those iPad users who would rather read and watch videos in the comfort of their bed or on the couch, the GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2, stretches and wraps into the perfect position. The limber yet sturdy legs of the GorillaMobile Yogi twist and bend to stabilize the iPad on uneven surfaces – from your lap to the kitchen cabinet! The polycarbonate case with rubber bumper protects your iPad from shocks and falls. Plus, the quick-release clip easily detaches the modular legs, allowing the case and legs to be used in landscape or portrait mode.

PS Lest you think I am exaggerating the hilarious statements that were sent to me while waiting for release of the iPad 2 versions – this is my favorite one: “My iPad has been grounded for the past 2 months. He wants to go out and play with his friends and he’s mad I won’t let him without a helmet.”

We were pleased to find out this week, that our enormously popular iPhone app, Gorillacam, has been featured in not just one, but two different books. How to Create iPhone Photos by Allan Hoffman and iPhone Obsessed by Dan Marcolina both show off the Gorillacam app but the latter also features the lovely GorillaMobile for iPhone 4.

This beautiful film about Medieval Walls in Ferrara Italy by Giorgio Fochesato is shot in black and white and is an eerily beautiful vision of a UNESCO Heritage site.

The GorillaMobile Yogi won some new fans this week, due to it’s playful adaptability. In iLounge, the “highly recommended” Yogi, was praised for being “as close to truly great as any such accessory has come for the first-generation iPad.” On the other side of the pond both GorillaMobile Yogi and GorillaMobile Ori were reviewed by CNET.

And to leave on a humorous note…and how I felt at times this week:

Today, as many of you most likely know, Apple announced their newest version of the iPad. Armed with a front- and back-facing camera, faster speeds and multi-tasking features all in a thinner package, the iPad 2 is poised to be the must-have device for reading, cooking, gaming and picture-taking. So, what’s JOBY planning to do about it?

We are thrilled! JOBY purposely created the GorillaMobile Ori and Yogi for iPad to serve as platforms for the iPad as Apple continues to improve on its masterpiece. Plus, with the added camera, the positioning and stabilization that Ori and Yogi offer become even more important for capturing images or communicating with loved ones.

Following on the enormous success launch of the GorillaMobile Ori and Yogi at CES, we are ready to kick it up a notch to enhance the improvements on the iPad 2. The versatility of the Yogi will enable the same sort of electronic acrobatics you have come to expect from a JOBY product. With flexible and bendable legs that attach to any height, the GorillaMobile Yogi will make picture taking from extreme angles a breeze, plus with amazing ability to adapt to uneven surfaces, the Yogi will take the improved memory of the iPad 2 to the next level allowing for lazy Sundays filled with music, video watching, magazine devouring and food creating hours.

For the Mobile Pro, the sleek, ergonomic protection of the Ori will protect the iPad on-the-go and fold into exactly the right angle for any activity you may want from your iPad including maximizing your next conference call with the front-facing camera and Skype. The Ori is constructed from a super strong, German-made, aluminum and polypropylene composite which provides the case with lightweight yet rigid stability so that it can achieve 15 inches of extended ergonomic positioning in viewing modes. Precise positioning and stabilization, something JOBY knows a thing or two about, are even more compelling features when using cameras for photo-taking, video recording and video calling.

Keep your eyes peeled- the next generation of GorillaMobile Ori and GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad will be available for purchase at select retail locations in June of this year.

Hello Creactives,

This week has been very meeting filled, so I am actually looking forward to the bizarrely cold weather that appears to be coming our way. I don’t believe it, but the weather gods of the iPhone claim that it will somehow be snowing with a low of 36 degrees today. Looking out the window it is sunny – there does seem to be a disconnect here.

I love the title of this book, ” Do Carrots Make Nice People?” I am glad they clarified the species, because otherwise it would imply that rabbits are the nicest of all. To date, I just haven’t found that to be the case.

Press

In the meantime, this week we received great press for our newest additions to the product line – the GorillaMobile Ori and the GorillaMobile Yogi. CNET did a great hands on review of the GorillaMobile Ori and the GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad – Kama Sutra references and all.

In a much more family-friendly take on the GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad, the Dallas Morning News, highlighted the multiple positions of the Yogi.

Hello Creactives!

Last week at CES, we launched two incredibly different iPad products. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones excited by our creations. The GorillaMobile Ori won best in show for Beatweek Magazine. Notcot didn’t only love our product they also marvelled at our booth and the origami that we used in both our stop motion videos and to draw attention to our new products. This great in depth piece covers our partnership with Origami master Robert Lang who not only created a sculptural element for the booth, but also crafted amazing origami for our stop motion video to help launch GorillaMobile Ori for iPad.
