Gorillacam app for iPhone

There’s no better example of this than the iPhone, which has inspired legions of “iPhoneographers” and has even become the most popular camera on Flickr!

To support iPhone users and their photography we first launched the Gorillamobile for 3G/3GS, which has rapidly become a bestseller. Today we are pleased to announce that we’re extending our support for iPhone users even further with a FREE camera app!

The Gorillacam is a fast, feature-packed app designed to extend the iPhone’s native camera functionality. Gorillacam adds many features that are unavailable in the basic camera application, including a self-timer, time-lapse, and continuous rapid-fire shooting. The Gorillacam is the perfect companion for the Gorillamobile, making self-portraits, timed shots, low light photography, or getting crazy camera angles a breeze!

We partnered with the amazing folks over at AppTight to create what we feel is one of the best camera apps available. AppTight has built a number of successful iPhone apps, including the popular iCommute SF, and they really delivered for us, and for you!

We’re excited to hear what you think of Gorillacam, so go on over to the App Store and try it out. We take user feedback to heart, so tell us what features you want in future releases, and we might just build ‘em!

So many amazing images have been captured the world over using Gorillapods, and we absolutely love it when customers share their photographs with us. From happy accidents like the crasher squirrel, to carefully crafted nature shots by award-winning pros, Gorillapods have enabled users to capture some incredible imagery.

To celebrate the creativity of photographers everywhere, Joby is proud to announce a brand new photography contest! We’re looking for your very best photographs, taken with or without a Gorillapod. The grand prize winner will receive our entire Gorillapod line, and will have his/her photo published in Popular Photography!. There are lots of great prizes for runners up, too.

We know that you probably have some amazing photographs, and we want to help you share them with the world. Just as our customers are passionate about photography, we’re passionate about building great products and promoting the creativity of our fans and users.

Full contest rules can be found over on our contest page, but here’s how to enter:

• Send an email to contest@joby.us with up to three (3) images. You can send us a link to the images, or attach them to the email (max attachment size 10MB).
• Each entry must include the following info:

1. Your full name
2. Your email address
3. Contact phone number (and/or mailing address)
4. Your country of residence.
5. Where the photo was taken.
6. Was a Gorillapod used in the creation of the image?

This Thursday, October 8 (aka tomorrow!) from 7-10pm, we’re celebrating the launch of our two most recent products: the Gorillamobile 3G/3GS with a case for the iPhone, and the Gorillatorch, a handy hands-free flashlight.

Those of you who follow this blog know that we’re currently hosting Joby Inspired, a pop-up retail store and art gallery in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. Our party will be held in the Inspired space at 580 Hayes St. in San Francisco. There will be music, beverages, and lots of cool art and products to entertain you.

We’ve had lots of visitors so far, and we love seeing people’s reactions to the artwork and our partners’ products. It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through! Many customers have told us that they wish we could stay longer, and frankly, we do, too!

Some of you will recall our earlier post in which we asked you all to help us name the latest addition to the Joby family, namely our little fixie. We also alluded to the fact that our engineers would be performing a bit of a transformation on our two-wheeled wonder.

We’re pleased to announce that both the naming and the modifications were a smashing success. One of our engineers swapped out our fixie’s tubes and handlebars for Gorillapod Focus segments! And the pedals were transformed into Ballheads for the SLR-Zoom. The finished product is quite a work of art.

Of course, such an art piece needs a name, and you guys came through with some awesome suggestions! We loved your creativity. Ultimately the judges went with the name suggested by Matthew Harris: Jobixie the Fixie.

Jobixie is now on display at our Joby Inspired Gallery in Hayes Valley in San Francisco. Stop by and see her before October 11. You can also check out additional artwork by some very talented designers.

Our 10-day retail pop-up store and collaborative art gallery has launched!

Joby, in collaboration with a number of artists, designers, and select retail partners, is hosting a retail space and art gallery for a limited time in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley.

We’re super excited about this event, and we hope that any of you who might be in the SF bay area will swing by and say hello. The event kicked off with an amazing launch party last night.
